About MacKinnon
This website is dedicated to my loving dad in his memory -
 William John Christopher MacKinnon (1915 - 2006) whom I dearly miss.

My dad had always held a keen interest in his roots in South Uist, Outer Hebrides, Scotland, having lost his own dad at the tender age of 6 yrs old. He was always interested in "who was who" and how they were related/connected and had a vast knowledge of family affairs, names & dates among other "snippets" which over time has enabled me to build what I can call "My Family Tree".

I was fortunate enough from a very young age to have inherited my dads interest in his ancestry through our many trips "Home" to 455 Strome, North Lochboisdale, South Uist.

Although I was only a child, I remember our trips like it was yesterday and the vast amount of people we used to visit. I was in awe with the amount of relatives we seemed to have had then. Being such a young girl I was unaware that because the Island was so small that it was inevitable that we would have so many relatives & family connections as my 4 X great grandparents (GGGG) on my paternal side were all born and raised on the Island and all had reasonably large families.

Our family is spread throughout Scotland, England & Canada which I know of but there may be others in different places which I have yet to discover and my aim is to reach each and every one who is part of my family. If you think you are a leaf off my tree please email me through this site.

I would like to thank all my relatives & friends who have been a great source with valuable information/snippets etc. and of course "corrections"!!! Especially:-

Mary (Campbell), Mary Kate (Morrison), Mary (MacDonald), Peggie (Millmow), Margaret (Steele) & last but not least my younger brother Iain.

I apologise to you all for being so inquisitive but every little bit has helped and you can now reap the benefits in this lovely informative site but none-the-less, will still welcome any new info. - especially old photo's of our ancestors.

Many thanks to you all for your contributions and enjoy reading!!!!!!

Remember to call back periodically as this site is still very much in progress (only a fraction on here with plenty of collated info. to add).
 If anyone has any info. or dates they can contribute, questions/queries regarding any surnames or locations, you can email me via this site.

This is only my paternal lineage but other surnames in my roots from South Uist include;

MacDonald, MacIntyre, MacEachan, MacAulay, MacInnes, Cumming, Steele, Walker, Bowie, Morrison, MacLellan, O'Henley.....the list goes on.

I have a wealth of Uist connections & info. which I can help with even if you are not connected to my own family tree which I am willing to share if you are descended from Uist folks.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
